1. FAST (well, that is a trade-off to longevity of your batteries to some degree.) - But this unit is FAST.
2. Connectivity - This unit DOES have 12volt input, and comes with CIG-Liter (automobile plug) in ADDITION to a "nice" switch mode AC wall wart supply.
3. Ease of use - Well, you just pop batteries in it and viola! It works.
4. Ability to detect BAD batteries - It does this (I tested it with a dud. It does not properly indicate WHICH cell is bad either.) ALSO see #6 concerning this.
5. No overcharging and killing the cells - It does SHUT OFF and trickle after charge is complete. This is VERY nice.
6. Charge from 1 to 4 or any combo of - THIS is where we fail, not miserably however, but you can ONLY charge 2 batteries OR 4 batteries. You cannot charge ONE or THREE. Yet the charging is independant to each cell, so I do not know why it was impossible to design it where you can stick a cell in ANY slot, either all or one. But it DOES NOT work that way. You can also see how bad batteries would cause a bit of confusion here.
Why you ask do I just not charge 2 or 4? Well: If you for example use ONE battery, and you put the dead one in the charger to replace the ONE you took out. Here's where you will not charge just ONE battery, you are charging ALL of them again each time, and it is not the best medicine for the remaining 3 batteries to do this all the time. So my review is that 90% awesome charger, with room for 10% improvement.
And if the improvements are made, there would be no NEED for that SWITCH on the front to select 2 or 4 battery charge mode (cost would probably be the same with the improvements eliminating the need for that part!). IF you have it set to "2", it will only charge the LEFTMOST two batteries.
It DOES work, and it is the best charger so far of this size with a display (that I have found.)
